How to Prevent Problems with Your Tattoo.

Fortunately, there are several ways to reduce the risk of a bad reaction to your tattoo:

  • If you spot anything unusual with your tattoo after getting inked, don’t hesitate to reach out to your artist! If it continues beyond a week, booking a visit with a dermatologist is a great next step.
  • Consult your dermatologist before getting a tattoo if you have a skin condition like eczema or psoriasis.
  • Select a clear area of skin without moles. This way, you ensure any future changes or issues can be easily spotted! Taking this simple step helps keep your skin health in check and brings peace of mind.
  • We will not tattoo over moles, sunburned skin, or skin with extreme acne.
  • Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water before touching your fresh tattoo or its protective bandage! It’s important to keep that bandage on for 8 to 24 hours for the best healing. Enjoy your new ink!
  • Avoid scratching or picking at your tattoo during healing, as this can introduce bacteria into the skin. Or pull the ink out.
  • Tattoos can feel tight while healing because the skin is constricting as part of the healing process, similar to the sensation of a sunburn. Stretching the skin can cause the tattoo to pull apart or tear, especially around joints like the elbows, knees, or lower back. When you bend over, the skin stretches, so it’s advisable to kneel down to pick up items or be cautious when lifting to avoid putting stress on the tattoo.
  • In the case of discomfort, apply lotion or ointment to relieve the dryness so you don’t feel the need to stretch.
  • We advise against working out, running, or sweating for up to 72 hours after getting a tattoo and recommend avoiding heavy workouts until the tattoo has peeled normally within 6 to 10 days.
  • We also do not advise swimming, using hot tubs, or soaking in hot springs until your tattoo peels.
